ASIS Florida West Coast Chapter Local Vendor Resources

October 18, 2007 Luncheon

Thirty-one chapter members and guests gathered for the monthly meeting and luncheon. Jon Kemp, Chapter Chairman welcomed everyone to the October luncheon. Howard Bass then lead the members in the pledge and invocation.   

Patty Schmitt and Marcy Wilson then shared the plans for the upcoming Seminar in February, “Creating Your Winning Edge”. Patty spoke on the highlights for the program; Earn valuable recertification points. Gain valuable insight if you are considering applying for one of the ASIS certifications. Program will be designed to meet the needs of professionals at all levels of experience. There will also be a valuable opportunity to re-qualify for your Florida Security Armed License. The material will focus on the eight topics required by ASIS for certification.

  1. Security Principles and practices.
  2. Business Principles and Practices.
  3. Personal Security.
  4. Physical Security.
  5. Information Security.
  6. Emergency Practices.
  7. Investigations.
  8. Legal Aspects.

Marcy spoke about the different vendor sponsor packages that will be available this year. We will be offering advertising opportunities in our brochure, website and attendee workbooks. Vendors can also have their logo displayed on a banner that will hang in the main hall and classroom as well as table tents. Vendors will also be given the opportunity to address the attendees during a time that will be set aside for a five minute overview of the services they provide.

Al Perotti, CPP, Program Chairman, Presented the membership with the slate of officers for the 2008 Chapter 030 Board:
Chapter Chairman - Michael Middlebrooks
Vice Chairman – Patty Schmitt
Secretary – Jeremy Yeomans
Treasurer – TBA

He then opened the floor for any other nominations from the floor. If anyone would like to be nominated for one of the board positions they should contact a board member prior to the November 1st board meeting. The slate will be finalized at the boardmeeting and brought to the November General meeting/luncheon for a vote by the members present. The new officers will be installed at the December meeting/luncheon.

Bob Glazman, CPP, ProgramChairman introduced our guest speaker Ed Morris, CPP, Coast Guard Compliance Office. He is the Compliance Specialist for St. Petersburg, Tampa, and Port Manatee. He spoke on history of port law and the differences and impact between domestic law and international law on portcommerce.
